About Us

Aprile and Deanna Thomas grew up in Milledgeville, Georgia.  They are the proud twins of Rosie M. Warren and Otis Thomas Jr.  They attended West End Elementary School and graduated from Hancock Central High School, located in Sparta, Georgia.  After graduating from High School, they attended The State University of West Georgia in Carrollton, Georgia, where they both majored in Early Childhood Education. 

Attending college was a major goal for the twins.  It was there that they realized the deception of being prepared for college.  They were both straight A students throughout elementary and high school.  Aprile graduated salutatorian with Deanna right behind her.  However, attending college told the real story.  Determined to graduate, Aprile and Deanna worked extremely hard.  They both worked four jobs to help pay for college tuition and studied countless hours to maintain good grades. 

After graduating from college, Aprile and Deanna were eager to step into the classroom.  Because they were deceived throughout their early years of schooling, they developed a strong desire for educating children in a productive manner.  The twins moved to Atlanta, Georgia, to teach in the public school system. 

Their experience in the public school system was not satisfactory.  They were constantly told not to care about students who did not comprehend as quickly as their peers.  If students were ready to read at four years of age, they were told they were moving too fast.  Aprile and Deanna knew instantly that they could not work for such a perplexing system.  However, they were determined to continue teaching. 

Soon after leaving the public school system, Aprile and Deanna began teaching in private schools.  They felt this was their chance to really make a difference in the lives of children.  Nevertheless, things were even more complicated.  Children were constantly being labeled negatively and Aprile and Deanna were told over and over again, not to care too much. 

The experiences in both systems led them to create their own circumstances. They walked away from great benefits and did not know from where their next dollar would come from.  Six parents realize that Aprile and Deanna were ideal teachers and asked them to home school their children.  They accepted their request, and in two days, transformed their garage in a classroom.  This was the beginning of Twins' Academy, Inc.  Finally, Aprile and Deanna could teach, "The Twins' Way."

Aprile and Deanna have set their goals high.  They believe that it is time to raise the standards in education.   Their vision is to teach children at an early age, how not to associate education with a school building, but as an ongoing process of life. They believe that this attitude will promote a spirit of excellence and confidence that will dominate fear. (will help children to succeed throughout their lives.)
